Accounting Technician

At the full performance level, incumbent:
Reviews various accounting documents to verify accounting data and necessary entries. Prepares required forms (such as standard vouchers) to enter data into Financial and Business Management System (FBMS) computer system. Reviews records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies, determines appropriate action required for correction, and prepares entries for processing. Classifies accounting transactions for entry into the automated system. Prepares financial statements with final fiscal year reports. Checks that income and expense ledgers are closed to applicable cost authorities in permanent General Ledger. Prepares spreadsheets showing totals, differences and required entries. Ensures that balance sheets and trial balances agree with Summary Reports. Maintains all aspects of payroll time keeping information. Processes travel documents in the Electronic Travel System (ETS). GS-05:
In order to qualify for the GS-05 grade level, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service -OR- four full years of progressive, successfully completed education above the high school level at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or universitySpecialized Experience for GS-05:
Defined as experience performing support work in an office environment; and experience in reviewing incoming documents to ensure completeness and accuracy (e.g. signatures, dates, accounting codes, receipts, etc.). GS-06:
In order to qualify for the GS-06 grade level, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service.Specialized Experience for GS-06:
Defined as experience preparing accounting information and recording it into an automated accounting system.GS-07:
In order to qualify for the GS-07 grade level, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service.Specialized Experience for GS-07:
Defined as experience applying accounting principles, methods, procedures, and techniques to maintain and analyze accounts in a diversified accounting system; and preparing accounting information and recording it into an automated accounting system.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly reflect the experience/education listed above. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
