This position is located in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Resource Management and Visitor Services Division and serves as the Division Chief reporting to the Deputy Superintendent.

Develops, directs and manages programs for the protection of natural, cultural resources, fee collection management, and interpretation/education over a broad landscape within the park.
This includes the broad spectrum of functions including wildlife, vegetation, physical resources such as water, cultural resources, compliance, GIS, and science and research.
Coordinates and collaborates with a large variety of federal, state and local agencies for the protection of natural and cultural resources of the park and to develop and manage broad regional strategies for the management of the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Colorado River.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the park management team, the academic community, other federal, state and local agencies, private organizations, conservation organizations, the news media and the public.
Manages and supervises a large professional staff of cultural and natural resource managers, archeologists and biologists, fee collection manager, and interpretation/education manager to accomplish the Division's programs.
Manages a large, complex resource management and visitor services and education program including a substantial budget inclusive of both congressionally appropriated as well as alternative funding.
Ensures that appropriate internal controls are in place to prevent fraud, waste, or abuse.

Occasional travel - Overnight travel will be occasional to attend meetings, seminars and training conferences.

Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
Occupancy of government quarters is NOT required, but government housing may be available to rent.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
If you are a new supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home on an occasional basis. You must obtain a government charge card for travel and purchase authority.
You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis.
Basic Education Requirements for Supervisor Natural Resources Management Specialist, GS-0401-14
Successfully completed a full four year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
Have a combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to biology; PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above.
To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must possess the following specialized experience by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as implementing policies, plans, standards or procedures to carry out endangered species activities; applying natural environmental laws and policies; developing endangered species management plans, objectives and priorities; rendering interpretations of policy, laws, and regulations regarding endangered species to high level administrators; integrating multiple aspects of ecosystem management, refuge management, fisheries management, ecological services, and the migratory birds, federal aid and law enforcement programs; managing a diverse staff whose work included natural resource issues.You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
To meet the basic education requirements, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-14 grade level.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
